Golf Major champions has dealt his mentor Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandeler a blow by signing up for a rival agency.
Chandler has been Rory McIlroy’s agent ever since he borke on to the scene as an amateur 16 year old. Over the next seven years, Chandler managed all of Rory’s affairs as the young Ulsterman went from strength to strength on the course, culminating in the US Open victory earlier this year.
But now Rory has decided to move to Horizon – a Dublin-based golf agency that is also home to Graeme McDowell.
A spokesman for Chandler’s ISM agency said “There has been no falling out, it is amicable. He is joining his great friend Graeme McDowell at Horizon.”
Chandler was quoted as saying “We have had a brilliant year. Rory has grown and he leaves us as a major champion.”
