Luke Donald In The Olympics

This year proved to be lucky for Luke as Luke Donald was called in to replace Jaco van Zyl who withdrew from the Open Championships.

Luke obtained the number one title in the world of golf in 2011 when the tournament had been held in May. His chance to qualify in the Opens this year came about in the Scottish Open. Being an Englishman and 38 years of age, he had been kept as a reserve to participate in the Open. As Van Zyl chose to rest before he competes in the Rio Olympics Luke got his chance.

There were several other changes in the nominations as Stewart Cink, the former winner, also chose to withdraw. As a result he allowed Daniel Summerhays to be part of the Opens. Donald had finished in the 12th position in St Andrews which was held last year. The cut was missed out when the Open was held at Troon in the year 2004. He also played the British Open which was held at Royal Troon. Jaco van Zyl withdrawing from participating in the 145th Open was a boon, after he participated in the Scottish Open. Donald is not new to Royal Troon where he has played previously for two occasions.

The Scottish Open was held at Castle Stuart. Donald is ranked as 83rd in the world rankings for golf players. The last competition that he won was in 2012 which was the BMW PGA championship. He harbors dreams of making it to the Ryder Cup this summer. He stated to reporters that it was an aim that he was planning at. There are other players who are kept as reserves for the Open. These are Daniel Summerhays, Colt Knost and Jamie Lovemark who are reserves for the championship.
